Argentina beat Columbia in penalty shootout after a stalemate
04:25
Carlos Tevez scored the winning spot kick as Argentina beat Columbia to reach semifinals of Copa America '15.
Argentina showed attacking intent right from the start. They were totally dominant in the first half , but still failed to put a goal past Ospina, who put in a man of the match performance against world cup finalists, Argentina.
On any other day, Argentina would have buried the game at the end of 45 minutes, but not today. Argentina created chance after chance only to see Ospina deny them all.
Columbia hardly had any shots on target. On the other hand, Argentina took around 15 shots and were desperate to get a goal. Otamendi came very close in the 83rd minute, but fine save by Ospina and an excellent clearance meant that, the match went into the penalty shootout.
The penalty shootout went on as each side failed to capitalize others mistake until Tevez put an end to this wonderful match.
It was a memorable day for Tevez, who had missed the key penalty against Uruguay 4 years ago.
Argentina came astonishingly close to yet another elimination despite dominating the match for 90 minutes. Today their missed chances didn't cost them, but it may, if they fail to build on this.
Argentina will either face Brazil or Paraguay in the semifinals.
