Atletico Madrid sit on the top of the table with  Barcelona and have more points than their rivals Real Madrid in the La Liga. Seriously!! One strange thing happened during the CL draw for the Round of 16 .

--> The teams in the same league cannot face each other.

So, they eliminate the above condition and go to next rule

--> First in a group  vs Second in a group(Another group).

As you know most  of the Big Teams will be group toppers and will be quite relaxed.Even Atletico Madrid were group leaders in their respective group. Sad that I used 'Even'. There was a discussion going on in the twitter by AC Milan fans and Arsenal fans (in general). Some Milan fans said, "I want AC Milan to get Atletico Madrid in the round of 16 and i want us to thrash them'.  Fact : ' People outside spain  see La Liga as just Barcelona and Real Madrid' and are clueless about the other teams in La Liga.  

Atletico Madrid have  the best defense in the league. Their main Striker Diego Costa is in prime of his life. Diego Costa at times, performs TWO STRIKERS Role.  His recent goal scoring stats were mesmerizing. Atletico Madrid under Diego simeone, this season have been quiet brilliant. Week in, Week out they have been playing very well. 

Atletico Madrid vs BIG BOYS

Real Madrid 1-Atletico Madrid 2 (Copa Del rey Final) -- Real madrid have beaten Atletico madrid almost every time  in the Madrid derby in the recent years, but in 12-13 Copa Del rey Final, Atletico Madrid begged to  differ. Jose Mourinho(The self proclaimed Special one) had lost  league and his team were knocked out of CL. Real Madrid had already won   against Barcelona CDR 4-2(over two legs) by then. Atletico Madrid broke the old custom or barriers and won against Real Madrid .They made sure Mourinho remains trophy-less for the very first time. That Madrid derby was dirty and ugly. If anyone who is capable of showing English teams how to play "ENGLISH FOOTBALL ", well they are the first team that comes to my mind.

First Leg  : Atletio Madrid 1- Barcelona 1
Second Leg : Barcelona 0 -Atletico Madrid 0


This Spanish super cup was full of goals over last two years.
Barcelona 5-Real Madrid 4 11-12
Barcelona 4- Real madrid 4 12-13

Fact: If there are two counter attacking teams and they both are playing each other?? Which team will lead the attack??? Any idea?? 50-50 right?? . If in those teams,  one among them is 

Atletico Madrid?? then?? ... (I am talking against big teams , like say top 8 teams)
Well from what I saw, Atletico Madrid will be the last team to lead the attack and leave the spaces behind. They are very particular about it.


Real Madrid 0-Atletico Madrid 1. 

This was the fantastic result for them .Beating Real madrid at the Bernabeu is never an easy task. Their striker Diego costa bullied PEPE,RAMOS , almost everyone in that game. Atletico Madrid could have easily won 0-2,0-3. It still makes me giggle when I remember this ( some Real Madrid fans were commenting ," Real Madrid had no chance to counter attack throughout the game "). That's sums it up. Atletico Madrid were well organised at the back and were inviting the home team to attack and hit on counters .They eventually won 0-1.

For now, Atletico Madrid are genuine contenders for the league and beating Atletico Madrid in the CL over two legs is an UPHILL task. I can even bet that Atletico Madrid will beat Milan over two legs . To sum things up, I am Sure Milan manager would have opted Arsenal or Chelsea over Atletico Madrid. The TV money sharing in La Liga has led many clubs to be in debt and sell their best players every year. Valencia CF is the prime example. This has led to the evolution of spanish talent from all the clubs and thank god, there is still lot of quality in La Liga. Players like Silva, Mata, Negredo, Navas etc have been best players in their respective clubs. News is that,  Koke to Manutd is done, and they hope Diego costa remains at the club if they want to replicate first half performance in the second half of the season as well.
