Barcelona extend their lead on the top with an impressive 2-1 victory over Atletico Madrid.

Messi dedicates his goal to his son, Mateo

Messi, who missed training  following the birth of his second son on friday came off the bench to score the winner to keep Barcelona on the top of the table.

Barcelona missed host of chances only to see Atletico take the lead through Fernando Torres's goal.

However, Atletico's lead didn't last long as Neymar levelled things up  with a sublime freekick.  Luis Enrique's plan worked to perfection when Messi's introduction helped Barcelona to raise the bar and take the game out of  the reach from Atletico Madrid.

Barcelona were quite good before Messi's introduction too, but were wasteful in front of the goal. Suarez and Neymar were terrific in the first half, but both somehow managed to miss the goal from couple of yards.

Thomas Vermaelen, who scored the winner against Malaga succumbed to another injury and was replaced by Mathieu.

There were at least 4 strong penalty claims(3 from Barca, 1 from Atletico) in the match, but referee denied them all.

At the end, Messi's killer instinct got Barcelona all the three points in one of the toughest match of  the season.

Luis Enrique will be proud of his team for executing the plan to perfection. The seasons are decided in May only if you are in it, so Barcelona are on the track as of now, just as the way it should be.
