There has been plenty of drama, problems in the club after the departure of Pep Guardiola, the successful manager of FC Barcelona.The success achieved during Guardiola era has been so immense that even achieving the league has been deemed as a failure by majority of fans.During Modern era of football you need to invent new methods, tactics and have proper motivation week in week out, otherwise other teams will eventually figure you out.That's the main reason why Pep Guardiola tweaked the tactics during his last season. He was trying out with 3-4-3 formation every now and then. Barca almost inverted the pyramid, check out allasfcb site for that. We all saw the tactical brilliance of Guardiola in the league game at Santiago Bernabeu. Real Madrid were leading 1-0 within seconds, but the scoreline at FT was 1-3.

Guardiola always believed that you cannot continue to be in high tempo with same tactics. The club then had majority of players who had won everything that a professional footballer has to win.So it is very tough to keep the hunger going. Tito Vilanova was named as the Manager of Futbol Club Barcelona.Tito Vilanova changed the tactics, Under him Barcelona are more direct in approach. With the arrival of Jordi alba, the LB. Both Left back and Right back involve in the attack. As we saw with this tactic in first half of season Barcelona won all games. But the problem came when we met AC milan In champions league, Milan used Zonal marking and they did brilliantly in crowding the midfield. So even their Best Player couldn't help them. AC Milan eventually won 2-0. Except for Barcelona fans all thought Barcelona would be eliminated.Then came the game against Real madrid. Mourinho's time had come .He figured out tactically how to beat FCB.Real madrid by following Milan's style. His team defended deep which led Barcelona players Dani alves and Jordi alba to come higher up the pitch to give support to other players and keep the constant pressure, but the plan backfired. Mourinho used these spaces left by Both FB, and every attack by Madrid took place in this area.
Only Puyol and Pique were left in Barcelona s defense to prevent Real madrid's attacking trio . Real Madrid eventually won 1-3 at campnou. Players, ans all were in despair.Then came Milan's second leg.They had something to prove. With Messi 's Brilliance and all team playing with the hunger. Barcelona were the first team to progress next knock out round in CL after being 2-0 down in first leg. Barcelona had won 4-0 despite all the mess. As we all know Guardiola had built Barcelona with Lionel Messi as the main Man. Every attack started with Busquets and ended with Lionel Messi. The wide players at Barcelona have to do Jobs which is not normal .(I will write about it other time). Barcelona for now are over reliant on Messi and depend on Messi to deliver . All was alright except we had lost Copa del rey.Then came PSG game, Messi scored the First goal, thanks to brilliant assist By Dani ALves. Messi suffered a injury during that game in the First half. He was subbed. Cesc Fabregas came in for Messi, Rather unusual role for cesc fabregas and obviously he will not fit there. The game ended with 2-2. Thanks to Victor valdes who saved Barcelona during that game.
Barcelona continued to do well in the league. Before talking about what happened in next leg of CL. I want to tell one thing, Tito Vilanova did very poor in rotating the squad. He depended more on the main players Messi, Xavi, Iniesta, Sergio Busquets. These players played every game. Forget about Song, he didn't even play in Copa del rey. This made some players believe that Tito vilanova will not believe us, so we should rather try to play football in other clubs. Ok keeping this aside. Barcelona Played CL game without Messi for a long long time. Barcelona players were lost in the first half. Barcelona would have been eventually out in first half itself if PSG had done well in final third. PSG eventually scored away goal, All fans across the world and even players for sometime thought "we need Lionel Messi" . Messi didn't wait for anyone 's orders. Messi came in for Fabregas. All fans, players lightened up. There was a hope there. Lionel Messi effect was crystal clear. Our team showed progress . His dribbles and his presence motivated his own team.He was the leader over there. After the Messi run and few touches, passes. Pedro goal made sure we progressed into next round. League was in hand already and Messi got injured again. We had to face Bayern Munich. As I said Barca s tactics had loop holes in it. Defense was very weak and with weak rotating policy and injuries, Marc bartra had to play as defender against Ribery, Robben , Gomez and Muller .
Let me tell you if you don't see Barca games quite often, Marc Bartra hardly plays in the first team. Since Puyol and Mascherano had got injured, Marc Bartra, who didn't play against relegated threatened teams started as a defender against Mighty Bayern Munich(Who were more motivated after losing to Chelsea in Allianz Arena). So With half fit Messi and weak tactics, Barcelona were thumepd, humiliated Home and away. Bayern eventually progressed to next round with 7-0.
Barca had just league to concentrate now. League was in hand already.But yet he made xavi and iniesta play more than others in the midfield.The main reason why Thiago left is " Tito Vilanova didn't start Thiago vs Valladolid when Barça had already won the league".
Rotating Policy and few ego clashes were the reasons why David villa was sold,and why Thiago demanded for a transfer. Thiago thought he had better future under Pep Guardiola than under Tito vilanova. Tito Vilanova should act wisely and make sure all players get the correct playing time, sort the tactics right and build a team which delivers well even without their star player.
With Neymar in, and Barcelona trying to sign another defender.They are certainly one of the biggest threats if not the ONLY threat next season.The Barcelona Era is far from over.
